Biography

The meeting of Erik Marchand and Bojan Z gives rise to a most original KAN HA DISKAN (Chant à répondre) between the voice of the great Breton singer and the immense Franco-Serbian jazz pianist. The modality and the love of the popular musics of Eastern Europe will be without any doubt the key of this meeting at the top and with the rare perfume.

Familiar with the Balkan region, Erik Marchand is a fervent admirer and defender of Gypsy music. He favors these links that he has woven between Breton and Balkan music, allowing himself a detour to the Portugal of Carlos Paredes.

As for the gifted pianist, he was sensitized from a very young age to a universal and barrier-free musical culture. Beginning to play the piano at the age of 5 in a music-loving family, Bojan Z discovered an eclectic musical universe: Bach, Ravel, Debussy, the Beatles, Yugoslavian folklore and jazz. He quickly learned to pick up on what he heard, thus developing a “jazz ear”. At the end of his studies at the Belgrade Conservatory, he acquired a certain notoriety on the Yugoslav scene. In 1986, he left for the United States to study with Clare Fischer at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. In 1988, he moved to France and studied at the CIM, the great French school of jazz and contemporary music. His career took a turn in 1990, at the Concours de la Défense, when he won the 1st Soloist Prize in the Marc Buronfosse Quartet.

Over the years, Bojan Z has achieved an unlikely fusion between jazz and the colors of Balkan culture.

An album is in preparation in the meantime we suggest you listen to their live at the national stage of the Quartz in Brest!
